TAG Engineering is a boutique engineering firm providing mechanical engineering to clients in building industry. We are looking for lifers with a vision who can recognize the growth potential in a small firm and see yourself leading the company.

Currently, we are seeking for a self-motivated Mechanical Designer, and a Sprinkler Designer to assist in design and management of mechanical, plumbing and fire protection systems in projects. You are a good communicator, a lifetime learner, have good technical skills, and want to be part of our growing presence in Lower Mainland and beyond. You must be detail oriented, have great follow through, and enjoy contributing to the success of the team in a progressive work environment.

You need not have any designations to do the job but must have good and relevant experience and knowledge to contribute in a short period of time. So if you are confident you have the experience, do send your resume in. We might be just the right fit for you.

SPRINKLER DESIGNER

REQUIREMENTS

  • Prepare Fire sprinkler system design drawings as per NFPA 13, 13R, or 13D (2013) considering architectural, structural and mechanical plans using AutoCAD.
  • Provide sprinkler head specification details on the design drawing.
  • Prepare design documents to be as per British Columbia Building Code (BCBC) or Vancouver Building By-law (VBBL) and NFPA 13.
  • Design for fire pump system design and specification.
  • Perform hydraulic load calculation as per NFPA standard. We use Elite Fire for the calculations. If you are familiar with any other programs and understand the working of it, it is an easy switch.
  • Familiar with high pile storage, light hazard, ordinary hazard, and extra hazard applications.
  • Reviews for completeness and accuracy at various stages of development and as defined by internal total quality management.
  • Provide a detailed observation report during the construction phase in coordination with the architect and senior project manager.
  • Familiar with sway-brace calculation as per NFPA 13.
  • Able to interpret Architectural, Structural, Mechanical and Electrical drawings
  • 5 or more years of fire protection engineering experience in the field of building systems.
  • Advanced working knowledge of the provincial building code and NFPA standards.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering concepts, methods and standards.
  • Mechanical and Plumbing design is an asset.
  • Eager to learn new skills.
  • Experience in this field.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years’ experience in Fire Protection  and AutoCAD drafting.
  • Strong AutoCAD skills (Setting up drawings and maintaining TAG Eng. CAD standards)
  • Diploma in Engineering Technology (Systems) from BCIT or equivalent college.
  • Fire Protection Diploma or equivalent college diploma/degree
  • Must possess good knowledge of NFPA 13, 13R, 13D (2013).

MECHANICAL DESIGNER – INTERMEDIATE

EDUCATION:

  •  Diploma in Engineering Technology (Systems) from BCIT or equivalent college.
  • Engineering Degree with Mechanical Systems competence equivalent to or exceeding BCIT Mechanical Systems program.
  • Experience in this field.

REQUIREMENTS

  • AutoCAD drafting and design
  • Perform heat load calculations for projects. We use CHVAC, but if you are familiar with any other programs, it is an easy switch.
  • HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection design and drafting with minimal supervision.
  • Prepare engineering design, specification, and/or recommendations for HVAC and plumbing.
  • Sprinkler and fire protection design is an asset.
  • Prepare equipment selections and motorlists
  • Prepare reports and communicate with clients by emails.
  • Process Shop Drawings.
  • Understand and provide Construction Administration services as directed.
  • Co-ordinate mechanical requirements with other disciplines involved in the project design team (i.e. Architects, Structural Consultants, Electrical Consultants, etc.).
  • Able to interpret structural and architectural drawings.
  • Eager to learn new skills.
